Music saved my life.
Music has a powerful affect on people. Some people use music as a form of healing therapy, while others live out the ego fantasies portrayed on the lyrics as a manual for their life. For Rey Ray music helped him stay out of trouble with the law and allowed him to travel the world. Growing up in South Central Los Angeles is not easy, avoiding trouble is even harder for a young Latino. Rey Ray believes music is an escape and a way to connect to your thoughts and emotions, it helped him stay on the right path.
Born Reynaldo Ramirez in Los Angeles California. His love for music started at a very young age. He learned to write raps in order to escape the street violence that surrounded him at every corner. He grew up listening to west coast rap artists like Dr. Dre, Easy E, Ice Cube. N.W.A and 2Pac. As a young man he would practice rapping with is homies at his parents garage flowing over instrumental beats until the sun came up.
His first break came when his homegirl Flakiss who was signed to Univision Records at the time invited him to record at producer Byron Brizuela’s studio. There, he met Jae P who was working on his platinum selling record “Ni de Aqui Ni de Alla” from there it was history in the making. Rey Ray recorded and toured with both Jae-P and Flakiss. It was through this experience that he realized he wanted to become a solo artist and contribute to the music world by recording songs with depth and real meaning.
“I record songs that touch my heart, songs that are real, positive and uplifting.” says Rey Ray. “by recording these songs I know they will reach others and maybe help them see a situation in a different and positive way, help them bring peace to their lives.”
The album “Los Angeles Califas” is produced by platinum selling record producer Byron “BRIZZ” Brizuela aka Beats From The Streets, one of the pioneers in Latin Hip Hop, the Latin music industry and co-owner of Rize High Records. “I am very happy with the way this record came out. Rey has some great songs that make you think about life, songs with messages and hope. I look forward to his career and the positive impact it will have on the streets.” adds Byron Brizuela.
The record contains various styles of hip hop, from club bangers to uplifting slow jams that make you think. Songs like “Los Angeles, Califas” which features the magic of Brizzy Armand and Adrian Brizuela aka The Brizz Brothers give us a taste of the past while revolutionizing the present with sick flows and memorable hooks. “Te Doy Gracias” is balled dedicated to La Virgin de Guadalupe giving her thanks for all she does for the lives of lost souls looking for hope and answers. “Lil Bro” is an biographical song describing Rey Ray’s pain and anguish over the loss of his older brother to gang violence.
This album was recorded with the idea of creating music to help people see life in a different way. Music and words have incredible power its time for creative individuals to take this medium to a whole new level of imagination.
